Welcome to Generation Gap where we ask you about your favorite generation of a certain multi-generational car nameplate. Then, explain why your choice is right to the rest of us uneducated folks.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
A few weeks ago in the last American segment of Generation Gap, we featured the Ford Mustang, the definitive pony or muscle car pioneered by mid 60’s America...today we have the Mustang’s perennial competitor, the Chevrolet Camaro (per !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ’s suggestion). Created to replace the suffering Convair, the Camaro since has become a success, creating six generations over the past (almost) 50 years; however, which of these generations was the best?
The options:
First Generation [1967 - 1969] and facelift
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Second Generation [1970 - 1981] and facelift
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Third Generation [1982 - 1992] and facelift
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Fourth Generation [1993 - 2002] and facelift
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Fifth Generation [2010 - 2015] and facelift
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Sixth Generation [2015 - Present]

Duh. This window shape is arguably one of the most beautiful america has ever produced.

Should the 69 Camaro be considered the face lift?
Also, you didn’t post the pre-facelift 3rd gen (kinda glad you did, as it’s ugly).
I voted for the 2nd gen by the way. You can’t say “no” to this.

While I appreciate the classics, my interests begin with the fuel injection era. I like them more and more with each generation. I own 2 4th gens, 1 LT1, 1 LS1, both manuals.

No Camaro is a good Camaro but if one has to Camaro ZL1 convertible is the best

Fuel injection seems infinitely less troublesome than carbs (except on Jags...) but I have never experienced carbs so I’ll leave the final judgement on that to someone else...also, that’s a lot of Camaros! Do you DD them regularly or do you have some sort of plan with them?

Lol, I also have an LS1 Trans Am.
I DD all of them as much as I can. Just have to play musical cars in the driveway/ garage sometimes hehe

Also quite a lot of American blind spot...

I take it you’re a Ford guy?

Right on both counts. I’ll change it asap, thanks!

I love em all, but im a sucker for a first gen. might be biased since my first car(still own) is a 68 camaro

Anyone who says that the 60’s-70’s was the golden age of muscle cars is ignorant of how badly they handled and how little power they produced compared to new cars.
2015 and later is the golden age of muscle cars.
Which will be displaced, someday, by newer and better.
I grew up with the early MC’s. They were great for their time, but suck compared to what is available now. Let the nostalgics weep and scream their asses off. They know I’m right.

As a fourth gen owner.... Second gen before the face lift.

2nd Generation for sure. 3rd gen is more affordable but early 2nd gen for the looks.
RS package or GTFO. That quad-light, split bumper look is dangerously gorgeous.

I have to stick up for my second gens, which had a couple of facelifts. I’m biased for the early models which I think were gorgeous.

I can understand playing musical cars when wanting to get something out. I keep my Camaro at my grandparents place that’s a 6 car garage and most of the time my grandpa shoves my car in the corner even though its the most used.

I loved my 98 SS was a great car, only thing I didn’t like was all the odd ball LS1 stuff the 98 had over the 99-02 cars. Had a 97 Z28 true 30th Anniversary car that was a love/hate relationship, but they cant come close to my 68 is terms of just pure pleasure when on the road. although I have been slightly regretting my recent carb swap, but needed to put the correct carb on it, but man it sucks to much gas.

I think you might be biased a little, lol

I think when people say the golden age is because this was really the last cars built before the government really started clamping down on the automakers for emissions and safety. It has taken a long time to get back to where the muscles cars were in the 60’s and early 70’s and now surpass them. I mean the third gen Camaro looked great but is a complete dog with the 305 motor.

RS is the only way to go on first and second gen Camaros.

3rd gen. I’ve had an ‘88 IROC with a 305 TPI and a 5 speed, and a 4th gen Z28 with an LT1 and a 6 speed. The 4th gen car definitely has the engine and transmission over the 3rd, but I preferred driving the 3rd gen...I could never get comfortable with the 4th, it's weird.

I have a 97 z28, and honestly, its been the most reliable car Ive ever had.
My other Camaro is an 02 SS 35th LE. Mint!!!!

We should invest in these, just push cars around lol

If first gen doesn’t win I quit.

had a set actually, didn’t like them.

I’m contractually obligated to vote fifth gen:

Gen 5 pre facelift.

Agree. And they have done it quite nicely.
Which do you like the best, your 68 SS or your 2014 or 15? You have 2 of the finest Camaro’s made. I am jealous, a bit. I also like your custom.

The 14 is a great driving car. very comfortable for long drives, but I love my 68, drives really nice for a classic car, has the awesome muscle car sound, manual trans. Sure its a little more finicky but that comes with it being a low mile original car.

1st gen Z28 will always be king. Anyone who votes 2nd gen should get an eye exam.

Especially post facelift 2nd gen.
